"Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush!" -Doug LarsonI love spring; it is BY FAR my favorite season. Take a deep breath and smell that fresh air. Go for a nice long walk. See all the new growth popping up from the soil! :) YAY! Spring time.
This weekend Katie and I drove down to Kansas City and couldn't stop smiling because their grass was greener, their trees were blooming, tulips were open, flowers were fragrant, buds were popping and spring was oh-so-happening down there! Although it did bring on a few moments of jealousy since we aren't quite that far along in our spring-happenings up north, we soon realized that not only were we lucky enough to enjoy a few "early" days of spring in KC but it soon will happen up in our north country!
In the mean time I was giddy with the camera about their amazingly-perfect dogwood trees (which I have never seen in Minnesota or Wisconsin) and the beautiful sunny weather we were having! :) :) :)
Yesterday myself, along with a handful of other photogs, showed up all smiles to the amazing Photogen Inc studios to learn about the world of Tilt Shift Photography with Eliesa's first ever Minne-shops (get it? Minnesota....Minne-shop.....cleaver! :) Eliesa taught while we listened, jotted notes and casually asked questions along the way....it was an intimate, awesome learning environment! :)
I have used my tilt shift before and understood the basic principals of how the lens worked but having a day to focus directly on this one lens was perfect for me. The lens is a tricky, all manual, monster of amazing-ness but SO worth it to figure out and use to capture those "WOW" shots! :) Here are a few I took with the AHHH-MAAAZING Erick an Bri (who is a beautiful pregnant woman who looks stunning in heels by the way)!

Eliesa, you RULE! Cheers to Tilting!!!! :)
Ugh. Your photos are so awesome! Just when I think they can't get any better, you blow me away!
(04. 8.10 @ 11:28AM)Wow these are amazing, well done!!
Thank you so much for using us as you progress!!
Erick & Bri
This past January I was THRILLED to have met them at the StyleLab Workshop (any photogs out there NEED to attend this by the way) when I was in California! They co-hosted, what was in my opinion, the MOST amazing workshop and life-changing kick-in-the-pants 2-days of information EVER! :)
Anyway, today I am thrilled to say that I have my very first FEATURE on the Wedding Chicks! YAY! They have been inspirational to me so to be on their home page among some of my most favorite wedding vendors is a big deal in my little world! Hattie and Dave's intimate St. James Hotel wedding was amazing.....go check it out and leave some love for the stunning Amy and Jocey of the Wedding Chicks! :)
Waaaa hooo! How exciting! Congrats to you girl, these photos are awesome!

This little gal is Elodie the polka dot elephant. She came from the super cute book that I just picked up from Darn Knit Anyway last week and I think the polka dot fabric I picked out suits her quite well, don't ya think!?! :) I imagine Elodie being carried around by a little girl, playing tea parties and princesses and lovingly gets kisses everyday! Sounds like a pretty good life to me...especially for a polka dot elephant! :)
Oh I love this! The fabric totally reminds me of a frog I had a child. Very cute!
(03.10.10 @ 9:50AM)She's adorable Em! Jill would love her and be so proud of you :)
(03.10.10 @ 10:17AM)That IS adorable! I have that book as well and I am loving it!
(03.10.10 @ 11:22AM)LOVE this. i also enjoy how theological and well-read this elephant is!
(03.16.10 @ 4:54PM)Em, that is the cutest little polka dot elephant I have ever seen. As my preggo friend is very all about polka dots, how much would you charge me to purchase one of your Elodie creations?
(03.19.10 @ 12:43PM)I also love the the elephant needs to sit atop a few books to reach the table. : ) WEll done!

I had ideas of traveling a day early and staying a day late while on my mini-vacay to Orange County Cali in January for that amazing Sylelab workshop. I envisioned walking along the beach, reading books while the sun beat down on my face, sipping cold Lemonade and taking in some much needed Vitamin D from those rays! Doesn't that sound perfect? And it sounded even more perfect after the blizzard-mania that we had just before Christmas.....
WELLLLLL...if any of you watched the news in January you heard stories upon stories of the massive amount of abnormal rain and winds that southern California was getting. Mudslides, hurricane-type-winds, street flooding, umbrella-whipping-through-the-sky kind of weather... And, of course, this was at the brink of my trip. Awesome! Needless to say I still had an amazing Emily-only vacay with many glasses of wine and much relaxing at the ever-so-wonderful La Casa Del Camino hotel in Laguna Beach ! :)
Although, the first day I got there I was able to see the sun peaking through the clouds for about 30 minutes just as the sun was setting so I immediately strapped on my camera and took a walk along Laguna beach and explored the amazing artist community!
SO. GLAD. I. DID!

love these images so much! the energy of the beach will steal my heart every . single . time!
(02.18.10 @ 12:04PM)Wow... it's like taking a mini vacation just looking at these. I bet this was an awesome trip!
(02.18.10 @ 3:07PM)Love your pictures!
(02.19.10 @ 6:50AM)Looking at the world through your eyes is always so fun. Thanks for these photos, Em. Love you!

I love meeting new friends. Especially friends that can challenge me and who really want to understand how I see the world. Friends that can be remarkable with me.....and that is sooooo sooo how Eliesa is (Ms. Photogen Inc to many of you!) :) She came over last week and she shared. To to say that I had the time of my life would be an understatement. We shared coffee, fears, inspiration, stories, ideas and even some Brie for lunch. We talked about the photography industry, crafting (all because of my obsession of course), social media, and blogs. And we tried to wrap our minds around what makes our life complete....it was rad. Simply rad.
Eliesa gave me the kick-in-the-pants I so desperately needed to launch myself into this 2010 year. We made goals, not just clean-the-house and walk-the-dog-tomorrow goals but LOFTY ones....big ones (in my eyes). I was able to dream about my large house on a farm someday with many pugs and an abundance of gardens....we talked about what makes me happy and who I am at the core of Emily. Gol, It was awesome!
I really, whole-heartedly believe that photography is just a piece of how I see the world...a piece among knitting, sewing, crafting, attempting to cook, gardening, and loving! I LOVE that I am able to make my living at a job that I am head-over-heals about and I also LOVE that being an artist is something that I am able to do every day.......
If you are ever in need of a good conversation, Eliesa is your girl! Her business is thriving and she is inspirational to her core! Thank you E for everything you shared.....myself and my business are better because of our time together! :) Honestly.
MIDWEST IS BEST! LOL.
And we want the same kind of house -- on a farm with gardens. Oh man.
Sounds like you had an amazing time with Eliesa. Awesome.
i love these! you have far too much talent! it's sick, really.
(02.16.10 @ 6:04PM)There is so much I love about this post! I love that artist quote, I totally am using it for something. LOVE that photo button at the end, and LOVE all the photos, duh! And I love you of course!
